Curtis caught sight of Roly’s mother and Anna being ushered to the car by helpful relatives. He continued watching them for a minute, then headed back off up the beach alone. Barney’s wasn’t what it used to be. They’d come here to drink when they were still underage, sitting at a back table planning their diabolical schemes. Roly was always the leader, but Curtis had provided the brains. Turk was just Turk. And Anna used to be Curtis’s girl. But while Curtis had been away, Barney had sold out to someone with probably more business sense, but definitely less taste.
